TikTok’s Partial Comeback Raises Excitement
The unexpected accessibility of TikTok’s website has led many users to wonder if the app is gearing up for a relaunch in India. However, there has been no official confirmation from TikTok or its parent company, ByteDance, regarding a full-fledged return.
Several users on X (formerly Twitter) claimed they could open the TikTok website, while others reported that it was still blocked for them. Many also noted that not all subpages are working yet, suggesting a phased or partial rollout rather than an official comeback.
Why Was TikTok Banned in India?
TikTok was banned in June 2020 by the Indian government amid rising tensions with China. The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) barred 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, Shareit, Mi Video Call, Club Factory, and CamScanner, citing national security concerns.
In its official statement, the Centre said these apps were involved in activities “prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.”
The decision came shortly after the deadly Galwan Valley clashes between Indian and Chinese troops, which plunged bilateral relations to their lowest point in years.
Will TikTok Return to India?
While the reactivation of the website has fueled speculation, experts believe it does not signal TikTok’s official comeback just yet. For now, Indian users remain unable to download or use the app on their devices.
Until TikTok or ByteDance release a statement, the app’s future in India remains uncertain — but the sudden reappearance of its website has undeniably reignited curiosity among millions of former users.
