EPFO Eases Aadhaar Seeding Process for UAN
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has rolled out a major update, simplifying how Aadhaar is used as KYC for Universal Account Number (UAN). This change will make it much easier for crores of EPF account holders to update their details without facing long delays.
The Aadhaar seeding process was originally introduced to ensure direct access to EPFO services, cutting out the need for employer involvement. Once a member’s Aadhaar is successfully seeded and verified by UIDAI, they can directly update their EPF profile. Only cases where Aadhaar is not linked or verified will still require routing through the employer or EPFO office.
Aadhaar Seeding Now Streamlined for Faster Profile Updates
According to EPFO’s latest circular dated August 13, 2025, if a member’s name, gender, and date of birth in the UAN database exactly match their Aadhaar details, the process becomes hassle free. In such cases, the employer can directly seed Aadhaar with the UAN through the employer portal’s KYC feature. Importantly, no additional approval from EPFO will be needed.
This means that employees who have already linked Aadhaar with their UAN can make changes to their EPF profile without waiting for long verification procedures.
Use Digilocker for Profile Change Requests
EPFO has also introduced a convenient option for members: using DigiLocker to submit Joint Declaration (JD) requests for changes related to their EPF profile. This digital integration is expected to save time, reduce paperwork, and offer a smoother user experience.
What This Means for EPF Members
With these latest changes, updating personal details like name, gender, and date of birth on EPF accounts will now be quicker and more transparent. By simplifying the Aadhaar-UAN linking process and enabling DigiLocker submissions, EPFO is aiming to make provident fund services more member-friendly and accessible.
