War 2 no longer Spy Universe’s lowest grosser
Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2 may not have had the dream start Yash Raj Films expected, but the action spectacle has managed to escape an unwanted record. The film has now surpassed the lifetime worldwide gross of Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger, ensuring it is no longer the lowest-earning film in YRF’s Spy Universe.
War 2 box office collection update
Despite a shaky run, War 2 witnessed a strong jump in collections on its second Saturday. On Day 10, the film earned ₹6.25 crore net in India, compared to ₹4 crore on Friday, marking a 55% growth. With this, its domestic collection stands at ₹214.50 crore net (₹256 crore gross).
On the international front, the movie has so far earned under $9 million (₹74 crore). This pushes its worldwide total to ₹330 crore gross. However, analysts note that unless it sees a bigger Sunday jump of over 50-60%, a complete revival remains unlikely.
War 2 beats Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger
Earlier in the week, War 2 raised concerns of becoming the first Spy Universe film to fail at the box office after suffering a 70% crash on Monday. But with its latest numbers, the film has overtaken the ₹321-crore lifetime gross of Ek Tha Tiger (2012).
This means Hrithik and Jr NTR’s big-ticket film has avoided the tag of being the franchise’s lowest grosser. That said, in terms of audience footfalls, War 2 still lags behind all other Spy Universe titles, including Tiger 3.
